Pros news

Well another week has flown by, Rob is still on honeymoon in Spain as I type away and Micko is in Dubai for 10 days, leaving me home alone!!! I will be away for 5 days at the end of the month. my destination? Colchester!!! Oh the joys of being the boss!! The flip side is I get to spend time with my two gorgeous Grandchildren, this number turning into three late November!!!

It is busy times for both Club and shop. Firstly a great Men's Dinner Friday with a superb meal and a fantastic comedian making a great value night. Why he even made Galey laugh!!! I had the fortune (or is that the MISfortune!!) to sit next to Galey on an excellent table of friends and he certainly has been one of the best at every sport according to him!!!

Club news

by Jane Cannon, Cleethorpes Golf Club's Scoop 2005 - 2015

The news from Cleethorpes Golf Club this week is as follows for the very last time, as I am now retiring to handover to my extremely capable new 'Scoooops' retiring Lady Captain, Anne Lambert and Jude Livingston who perhaps have contacted you already. I have been supplying you with Cleethorpes Golf Club's press releases for the past 10 years and now feel it appropriate to hand over to 'young blood'. I've enjoyed every minute - just hope Anne and Jude do and supply you with some interesting articles. A BIG THANK YOU for all the support you have given me and the Club over the past 10 years. It really was appreciated!!

Ladies section

Wednesday, 14 October - AGM invitation stableford competition

This was Lady Captain Anne Lambert's last competition as Captain of Cleethorpes Golf Club for 2014 -15 and from a weather point of view 'she certainly went out like a LION'. Unfortunately, heavy rain persisted for a greater part of the afternoon causing many competitions to play 9 holes and retire to prepare themselves for the ladies dinner, new Lady Captain's inauguration, prize giving and AGM.

However, for those who weathered the storm, there were some tremendous scores and Gill Kapka came in with a wonderful 39 stableford points to steal the show. There were also divisional prizes as follows:

Handicaps 29-36: 1.Elaine Blastland, 35 points, 2. Jude Livingston, 30 points and 3. Hilary Murray 28 points.

Handicaps 21-28: 1. Elaine Barker 34 points, 2. Pam Arnell, 33 points and 3. Gwen Farmery 27 points.

Handicaps 1-20: 1. Gill Kapka, 39 points, 2. Judith Gorman, 36 points and 3. Sue Pearson, 34 points.

The AGM winners are seen below with Lady Captain Anne Lambert.

In the Cleethorpes Golf Club Ladies Section Centenary Cup the winner was Sue Pearson. She is pictured above (in white) receiveing her trophy from Lady Captain, Anne Lambert.

The Cleethorpes Golf Club Ladies Section 2015 Cup Winners all got together to make a great photo.

Back row: Gill Kapka, Susan Colvin, Kate Appleyard, Alison Fletcher, Elaine Barker, Jan Dann & Liz Stones, Front row: Sue Pearson, Lady Captain, Anne Lambert, Lady President, Barbara Bayliss and Judith Gorman

No more news from me!!!!

Thank you Jane (Cleethorpes Golf Club's Scoop 2005 - 20015 - retiring)

Competition news

Saturday Stableford

Saturday saw the Stableford and old stager Stenno win division 1 with 38 points, getting back down to three in the process. I suspect this new found form is a determination to remain in the excellent first ten, with Liam Bell due back in the ranks and hopefully Andy Garton after an awful year of back problems. Division 2 saw Chris Bonner win with 39 points, with an honourable mention for Glenn Wishart coming second in that division with 35 points. Division three saw two of my pupils battle it out with Callum Wood's better countback 35 points edging out Miles Shaw

The Captain's drive in

Sunday saw a tremendous turn out for The Captain's drive in. Dave Reid and his Lady Captain wife Chris struck good blows to start in their playing duties well, but Chris and Vice Lady Captain Sue Colvin could not hold off Dave and his Vice Captain Glenn Wishart who won 3 and 2. The Men won overall 9.5 to 4.5, but a good day for all. I know the club is in great hands with these figures on board for the next two years and I wish them all every success!!!

Shop news

Shop upgrades

Shop wise I am putting the finishing touches to the order for new slat walling, new ceiling, new lighting, new counter and new fittings!! Nick Bradsell has helped along with joiner Dave Smith and I hope the work will start in the next couple of weeks. Note there will be lots of disruption so please stay patient as what we hope is normally excellent service may be tested to the limit!!!

New arrivals

New in has been The PING Ladies and Men waterproof collections, including lined sweaters. Pop in for a browse when you are next at the club. We also have beanie hats, mitts and brollies just arrived ready for that expected turn in the weather, although it is holding on well right now.

Also in is the new driver form TaylorMade, the M1 with the lighter crown. There is a demo available to try, just remember any fittings with Alex will have to be when he returns from his travels.

Christmas batteries - now availible!!!

Discard your unwanted lead batteries with us by trading these in for a new lithium battery. This means you can scoop the lithium for as little as  £174 for a standard model.

Other news

Away from our golf The Portugese Masters became a romp for Englishman Andy Sullivan who won by a massive 9 shots from fellow Englishman Chris Wood. In America Emiliano Grilo, an Argentinian won a playoff from Kevin Na, whilst our own Justin Rose faltered in the last round.

For Grilo it was a great weekend as Argentina blew Ireland (sorry Mr Gorman to mention this!) away to reach the semi finals of the Rugby World Cup. New Zealand thrashed a sorry France side, South Africa edged out Wales (sorry to mention this Mr Thomas!!!) and possibly even for a patriotic Englishman like me the biggest travesty was how Scotland went out to Australia (sorry to all our wonderful Scottish members to mention this!!!).

England's cricketers nearly scored a famous victory in the first test against Pakistan, the light beating them at the death, but we really do seem to be moving upwards again in the cricket world, unlike the rugby world!!!

Football wise we saw an easy win for United at Everton, slightly unexpected I would say. Arsenal and Man City had comfortable wins, whilst Chelsea got back to winning ways against my arch rivals Villa ( sorry Kev Laister ) Leicester did the comeback thing again to draw 2-2 after being 2-0 down at Sothampton. Lastly in the premiership my apologies to all fans of free flowing football as you won't be seeing that any time soon at The Hawthorns. Yes we won 1-0 against a poor Sunderland team, but it is not entertainment at all in my opinion and is not drawing me to go too often!!! A note for The Mariners, unbeaten in 10 but too many draws! However just 5 points off the top so keep the faith.
