Greetings from Paul Davies
Cleethorpes Golf Club - PGA Golf Professional

Well another fantastic week of golf at the club with many highlights to savour in the excellent recent weather.

It looks as if The Albion will have new owners soon, Chinese I believe. I just hope we keep our integrity as a club!! Grimsby Town seem to be buying well and there is a great buzz among the mariners faithful right now, let's hope they can do it this year. Lastly The England ladies team could not quite win The World Cup, but at least beat Germany for third spot.

I was very pleased to see Carl Peart win The Les Stones Memorial Cup last Saturday as Les would have welcomed such a nice winner. On that note I have recently had returned to me a photo of the course taken by Les as he piloted a plane over the course. He signed it to the winner of The Lincs Open (me believe it or not in 1981!!!) from the captain of the Club, the man himself. I have given this to the Club to be displayed in the Clubhouse, oh what happy memories!

The excellently organised Tony Diable/Linkage Trust charity day on Friday saw great weather, a great turn out, great scoring, great Clubhouse hospitality and great prizes. But the best part is seeing the students interact on the day so well. They are a great credit to all who work their socks off to give these youngsters such opportunities. Also, great to see Tony well up with emotion at the end of his day!!! The winning team was Paul Edwards, Chris Smith, Rob Edwards and Heath Merriman with 92 points. Second were our own Mark Stanham, Steve Flemming, Andy Legget and Martin Stanham with 87 points from Martin Thompson, Zak Mawer, Boyd Mawer and Paul barker on 86. Longest drives were Andy Macdonald for the men and Sue Harvey for the Ladies, whilst nearest pins were Zak Mawer for the men and Liz Stones for the ladies.

Saturday saw the mixed Captain's Greensomes, again played in great weather. Judith Livingston combined with Jack Garland for a superb 45 points. Second were captain's Jim Arnell and Ann Lambert with 38 points from Barbara Bayliss and Phil Briggs with a best back nine 37 points. The only two saw Jack and Judith win a dozen balls between them.

Captain's Day went very well on Sunday, with mainly good weather other than a late downpour and lightning scare, this passing over very quickly to allow play to finish on time. Well done to Captain Jim and his wife Pam for such a good day and it was nice to see a full Clubhouse again for the presentation. The meal after the presentation I attended was great, well done again to Janine!! Top dog and taking the trophy was Joiner Dave Smith with a fine 64, with Dentist Dave Smith in second place on a better exact handicap 65 over Simon Thomas. Fourth on a better exact handicap 66 was Simon Short, fifth was John Macdonald and sixth Ray Miller. Best gross saw a fine 67 from Martin Warren pip Darren Fuller on 69. Best front nine was won by Paul Barker, and back nine was Matt Helstern. The V (55 to 65 category) saw Paul Gorman pip Gaz Grantham, whilst VV (65 to 75) saw Tony Dann pip Geoff Smith. Bill Garton headed the VVV's whilst longest drive was won by Chris Greenbeck and nearest pin by Paul Moyle.

The Am-Am results from the previous week saw Jack Garland, Jack Woodhams and Paul Barker win the men's with 81 points from Steve Clayton, Gary Radcliff and Richard Lightowler on 80 points. The top ladies team were Ann Lambert, Judith Livingston and Jo Gibbons, whilst the mixed section saw Alistair and Alison Fletcher with Judith Gorman prevail.

Friday 26 June 2015 - SENIOR GENTS V LADIES

A great morning was had by all for this annual battle between the senior gents and the ladies and for the first time in five years the ladies were really triumphant over the men.

The morning culminated with coffee and sandwiches in the Clubhouse courtesy of the men.

Wednesday 1 July 2015 - Clive Gibbins Salver

Hot and sultry with an occasional welcome breeze can be the only words to describe this weeks' weather, 'for a change' said the Lady Captain for annual event of the Clive Gibbins Salver.

This trophy was presented to the Ladies Section by Mrs. Janet Broadburn, formerly Mrs. Janet Gibbins in memory of her late husband, Clive. The format is a four ball betterball, stroke play competition with a draw for partners to mix high and low players.

The scoring was excellent and the great dovetailing of Susan Colvin and Babs Swann took the trophy with a nett 70 and they took it on the back six from 2. Judith Gorman and Hilary Murray, 3. Christina Reid and Pam Welby with a nett 72.

Janet Broadburn presented the trophy and had tea with the Captain, Anne Lambert afterwards.

Monday 22 June 2015 - Pat Barrett Memorial Trophy

This trophy is a new addition to the Ladies Section and was presented by John Barrett in memory of his wife Pat who sadly passed away earlier this year.

Pat was one of the newer members of the Club but was extremely well thought of and this trophy is to be played annually in her honour, on the 'Ladies Away Week-end'.

The stableford competition was won this year by Pam Welby with 34 stableford point. Well done Pam - Pat would have been extremely proud of you!!!
