Well its Paul back at the computer typing away this week after a hectic few weeks. Firstly I had the Pro-Am to sort, which went very well after many pull outs and list changes. A big thank you to Ray Crome for his help. Also thanks to Pam Welby and her gang of ladies for the excellent half way house, and thanks to all players and sponsors for the fantastic support.
The course was excellent thanks to Steve Beverley and the boys and Janine did us proud in the Clubhouse. Thank God though I have not to worry about it for a few months!!! Last week was collecting my daughter form London after a successful first year at musical theatre school and a quick trip to the oldest daughter and two grand-kids. Suffice to say I need a rest from driving and removals right now!
Don't forget it is Captain's Weekend and it is not too late to play, the list for the main event on Sunday being on the board. The Mixed list for Saturday will be in the spike bar. Also coming up is the second Invitation day on the 1st of August. The list is now open in the shop, payment of £15 with entry. Championship day list is on the main board, the date is Sunday 26th July. Lastly on lists we also now have the Charity day list for 22nd August open in the shop, again payment with entry and £10 for members and £20 for non-members.
Saturday saw The Les Stones Memorial and the scoring was very good. An excellent 73 nett 64 saw Carl Peart take the title. Second on 67 was Paul Gibbons, then Cameron Tuck was third with a better exact 68 from fourth placed Alex Hoyle. Best gross was in form Darren Fuller with another fine 70. Honourable mentions to Paul Clyburn with a 72-68, Simon Short with an honourable 75-68 and also to Tom Stevens on 68.
The mid-week Stableford last week was won by Tony Diable with 39 points from Danny Houlton and then John Lock both on 38 points. Lastly on Sunday it was the Captain's Am Am.
In Professional golf Paul Casey lost out in a playoff to Bubba in America, whilst Jeff Maggert pipped Monty into second in the US Seniors Championship. In the BMW in Europe Pablo Lazzazabal triumphed.
In the rest of the sporting world we are waiting agog for the Ashes to start now, but I hope England blood some of the youngsters who did so well in the one day series against an in form New Zealand. Not too much football to discuss but it won't be long!!!!
