Well The Baggies one match winning run was ended by a much better looking Hull side on Saturday, the only saving grace being the teams below them all lost too! It is looking decidedly dodgy whether we stay up or not. Wayne Rooney scored a wonder goal, although he should have been pulled up for a foul before that, and United perhaps are turning a corner. Arsenal fans will not be happy with the thrashing they got from Chelsea, but what a blunder from the referee to send off the wrong player! Liverpool continue to press and look the most exciting team right now, closely pressed by a free scoring Man City.
England’s cricketers felt hard done by with a farcical end to their 20-20 defence to lose by the D/L method to New Zealand.
It was pointed out that I forgot to mention the results for the Stableford on the 15th of March. As Fletcher continued his fine form to win division one with 38 points and newly back to the club Paul Ferrand won division two with the same score. A notable mention should go to Alex Hoyle as his only two netted him £30 on his account! This week we did a Hidden Partners Stableford and the combination of Paul Gorman and Chris Dunster took top spot with 72 points. Second place went to Fullop Szep and young Jack ‘Woody’ Woodhams with 68 points.
Shop wise you are giving us great reviews at the moment I am pleased to say, with Vokey wedges and Scotty putters now in to much acclaim. Also in are Cleveland wedges, and TaylorMade and PING putters to give you a choice in these important areas of your game.
An interesting note is that when someone was told the price of a Scotty at £220 they said they wouldn’t pay that for a putter, and yet they have a driver at that cost in their bag. The driver will be used a maximum of 14 times a round and the putter on a good day say around thirty times, so where should we price up our game in reality. With the Vokey wedges retailing at £90, for a two wedge price of £180 you are also paying less than the big stick to cover the average golfer’s needs for pitching, chipping and bunker play too. Suggested combination for mid to high handicappers would be a 52 degree and a 56 degree by the way, but you will see there are many loft and bounce options to tailor to individual requirements. Feel free to pop in to speak to us about what may suit your game.
Also causing a stir is the loft and lie machine now being used in the shop. Alex is the wizard on it, with Mr Goodway rekindling old days and using it well too. I am awaiting my training by tech wizard Alex to use this. Note - club check is £3 per club up to a maximum £20 for a full set and any adjustments will be done within the price.
Ladies PING Collection early season discounts! Have a look in the 'Ladies section' further down for full details. Pop in and feel free to try on. (In the locker room of course, don’t make me blush Ladies!)
S3 trolley now in stock with choice of Lead Acid or Lithium Battery.
Vokey wedge £90 per club, special two wedge purchase price of £170 (must be in one transaction)
Remember that by the time you read this Rob will have had his other hip replaced and so will be out of action shop wise for a month or so if it goes as well as the last one. He hopes to be back on The Agony Patch teaching in about two months. We should have less disruption to proceedings than last time with Alex now on board, but please be patient if we are short staffed and therefore closed a little more than we would like.

We are getting good early feedback for the Open Day on 27th April, with several members already having booked friends in to play for the £10 with Fish and Chips. The club are giving any member a £5 spend on the day voucher as an encouragement to get you all involved. Also the lesson lists are open to book people on so encourage friends and family to e-mail us by clicking here to get further details and to book in. With a full marketing campaign behind these initiatives we hope to showcase our wonderful club for prospective new golfing blood.
Also building well is this year’s Pro Am with 38 Pros confirmed as playing to date and 34 teams. I know we have some of the usual teams to book in, please contact me as a matter of priority if you wish to play but please be aware we only have morning times left. I must mention and say a big thanks to Ray Crome who has drummed up great support for this great day!
Note too we will be opening up the entry list for the first Invitation Day 1st week of April, a sure sign Spring is on the way, although after Sunday’s mixed weather of rain, sleet, mixed in with thunder and lightning I am not too sure!
