Good afternoon golfers,
Well a blustery week of weather, with two heavy hail showers to boot and a very wet Sunday just gone! Mind you the course needed some of the wet stuff, although I must comment on what a great job Steve is doing out there right now!
The lists for Captain's Day and Am-Am are filling up nicely, check the boards if you are intending to play. Also we now have 36 teams for the pro-am, but we still can take more entries. Date is Friday, 19 June. Pop in to see us if you wish to play or click here.
Saturday saw a difficult day for golf, but we still had nearly 130 entries for the Moody Cup. One of Rob's students, Bob Paduch, won with 68 from Dave Copley, then evergreen Dick Easton and Mick Cook. Best gross saw a better last six from PJ Riley pip Matt Helstern after a pair of 76s.
Saturday 25 April saw the first of the year's 'majors', i.e. a cup competition. The Seddon Cup was won by Paul Gorman who triumphed with 41 points. Look out for the full results in due course.
I am pleased to announce that Cleethorpes Ladies beat Seacroft at home 4-1in the third round of the Mail on Sunday knockout. They await to hear who their opponents will be in the next round. During this game, Alison Fletcher managed another ace on the par 3 third hole. She used her 5-iron to secure the 158 yard hole-in-one. This was her second ace she had scored in the Mail on Sunday Competition. Well done Alison!
The Winter Eclectic, which commenced on the first Wednesday after the AGM in October and ran to the end of March, was again well supported. The winner was Judith Gorman with a nett 71, Gill Woodward was second with a nett 74.
Lincolnshire Vets Ladies Golf Association
Several of our ladies entered the above competition which was oversubscribed this year (over 200 please applied to compete), but it was Lady Captain Anne Lambert and her partner Lynda Tasker who dovetailed well to take ninth prize. Well done.
April Stableford
The April Stableford was played on Tuesday 28. Richard Turville was the winner of Division One with Mike Ellis coming home in second place. Division Two saw Terry Firth take the spoils with John Stephenson second. Again this stableford competition was well supported by 42 members who endured brilliant sunshine but bitterly cold winds!
Cleethorpes Golf Club Senior Ladies Section
Due to illness, unfortunately, only seven senior ladies' section members competed for the Irene Webster Memorial Cup, gifted by Pat Williams to commemorate the founder member of the Senior Ladies Section, Irene Webster. The winner was Jean Craven with Maureen Meadows being runner up.
Afterwards, twenty-six ladies had a lovely meal in the club lounge followed by a free raffle for chocolate bunnies and boxes of chocolates gifted by Pat Williams. There was also a Bring and Win raffle. The Cleethorpes Ladies' Section Captain, Ann Lambert, assisted Pat Williams in the presentation of the cup and runner up trophy, accompanied by bottles of wine also gifted by Pat. here we can see the winners of the Cleethorpes Golf Club; Jean Craven, Pat Williams, Maureen Meadows, and Cleethorpes Ladies' Section Captain, Ann Lambert.
Membership of clubs has been a keen talking point for a few years now, with generally declining numbers everywhere. This despite the fact there are more casual golfers than ever. With this in mind the club has rolled out a trial lifestyle membership along with a trial twilight membership. Get any lapsed golfers you know are interested in these schemes to give Andrew or Gill a ring on 816110 option three to discuss or click here.
Lesson wise we are busy right now with the summer offer of seven lessons for £100 which is proving very popular. Click here to book in. Also PING fittings on the FlightScope with Alex are FREE (PING are subsidising this for us) so now is a great time to think about changing your clubs. Again click the link to book in.
With lots of putters and wedges in store we are confident we can improve that vital short game area. With this in mind we have a PING wedge and putter demo bag available to be tried with Alex at no cost for a week, and also have the excellent Cleveland demo wedge cart available, again free to trial this month!Added to this is a lesson offer of three 30 minute short game lessons for £30 to get a real feel of what you need to improve from 50 yards in.

Sport wise a poor England cricket side lost an equally poor test, God knows what the resurgent Aussie side might do to us in the summer. Result of the week football wise is either my boys winning 1-0 at Old Trafford (gloating expected to any United fans out there!) or, of course, Town reaching the Conference playoff final at Wembley! Chelsea have now won the title, but there is still a fourth Champions league spot up for grabs, and at the bottom the third relegation spot could be any of four teams (Newcastle?!).
This week's fixtures are below:
Thursday 7 Maysenior match home v Grimsby
Friday 8 May Artie White (see notice board for course closures)
Saturday 9 May Beardsall Cup
Sunday 10 May County Match
Tuesday 12 May Senior Stableford qualifier
Wednesday 13 May Ladies Hyundai
Well fairly short and sweet this week, have a great golfing week, hopefully with better weather as it is on this bank holiday Monday as I prepare this week's spiel!
Cheers, Paul.
