Well a much better week of weather saw a full 18 holes in play from Wednesday last week. The weekend saw 71 entries into the stableford qualifier, and blustery conditions made scoring difficult. Division 1 (0-13) saw Martin Blades top the pile with 38 points from a fast improving Mark Pearson on 36 points. Division 2 (14-28) saw Dave Colvin top the pile, again with 38 points from Richard Wilson on 37 points. Well done to all.
Saturday 28 March 2015 - Winter League
The 5th Winter League took place on Saturday with 25 couples entering. 1. Paul Clyburn and Wally Walsh with a better back nine 53 from 2. Vinney Thomas with Joe Victory 3. John Gale and Matty Barber.
Pro's Roll Up
We have now put the first Friday Pro's Roll Up in the diary for the 10th April. Cost will be £5 to include some small prizes as well as sandwiches and chips in the clubhouse. At first it may just be Micko and myself going out as Rob is still trying to strengthen the leg he has had so much trouble with last year. We would like everyone to mix in and play with players they might not normally. So please support these nights open for Men, Ladies and Juniors. Also if you want to bring family or friends down for the sandwiches after feel free to. Click here if you want to come along so we can get a feel for numbers.
Wednesday 4 March 2015 - Invitation Stableford (16 hole competition)
Bright and sunny weather conditions were ordered by the Ladies for Wednesday's competition at Cleethorpes Golf Club and that is what arrived. Although the conditions were a little windy too, Invitation partners Judith Gorman and Jane Cannon both excelled in their divisions.
Handicap 1-20: 1. Judith Gorman 30 stableford points, 2. Lady Captain, Anne Lambert, 27 points and she took it on the back nine from Carla Clyburn.
Handicaps 21-28: 1. Jane Cannon, 25 points, 2. Elaine Barker, 22. Handicaps 29-36: 1. Babs Swann 24 points 2. Pam Welby 18 points.

One piece of sad news is the loss of old stalwart Don Gorbutt. He was 89 and had slowed up so much in the past couple of years, but he never lost that rascible sense of humour!!! Our condolences to his family.
Pro-Am preparation is now in full swing and I will be contacting all the regulars to see if you are playing again this year. If you have not been involved before but would like to be pop in for details. Also any tee sponsorship requirements can be looked at.
We have now started the Junior classes on a Saturday at 1.00pm. If you have any children or grandchildren wanting to have a go this is an ideal way at just £3 per child to get into the swing. Also if you know of any schools wanting to bring golf to their pupils get them to give us a call.
New head greenkeeper Steve Beverley has started his tenure today and it goes without saying that we wish him well and look forward to seeing his input on the course.
Football wise a bad week for my boys who suffered two defeats to local rivals Villa, firstly in the league and then in the cup on Saturday. Villa’s great week was marred on Saturday by idiot fans invading the pitch, one even biting his own player. Our fans then ripped seats and threw them, I just hope the idiots are found and banned!! Our only ray was QPR losing to Spurs. Ah well dreams of a trip to Wembley dashed again!! Grimsby had their fourth win on the trot and with the top two slipping up closed the gap for an automatic promotion spot. Keep believing you Mariners!!
