Well another week has flown by, and with mainly good, if cold, weather we have seen a much busier course over the last few days. All 18 holes are now in play, and the course has stood up remarkably well to the heavy rain it saw last year and the early part of January this year.
It is now well known that Rob Welford is to leave us to take up a new challenge. He has done a great job for us and I for one wish him well on his new venture!!!
Saturday saw 36 play in the Mulligan Stableford, which seemed really popular with all who played. Top of the pile was Mark Pearson with a better last three from Dave O’Hare, both on 41 points. With Dave in a lesson programme with ourselves and Mark benefitting from several gapping sessions with Micko on the FlightScope it was a good weekend for blowing our trumpets!!!
Sunday saw me play with Micko, alas me getting a beating and a good one at that. His front nine of 2 under was slightly marred with a couple of doubles on the back nine to finish on 73 to my 78. I am trying to play a little more and trying to change certain things in my swing, which as many of you in a similar situation know, is not easy and takes time.
Saturday 10 January 2015 - Winter League
The winter league on Saturday saw 28 players take part in blustery conditions, but over 18 holes. The winning combo of Dave Smith with sub Simon Peart were the only pair to break par with a nett 68 (69) with the one shot sub add on, a truly great score. There were three 71’s, and in order they were John Gale & Matt Barber, P. J. Riley & Gaz Grantham and Martin Thompson & Zak Mawer.

Only 16 hardy seniors braved the cold and frosty conditions for today's conditions (surprise surprise!!)
Sad news again this week with the loss to cancer of George Newman, a lovely man and great supporter of our fantastic seniors section. Our condolences to his family.
Some of the FA Cup football results were amazing at the weekend, best being Bradford beating Chelsea at The Bridge and looking good value for it. Also a great result for Middlesbrough at Man City. My boys go into the 5th round for the first time since 2010 after a hard fought victory at Birmingham. My apologies for all football fans for the turgid way Pulis has us playing right now!! Grimsby Town had a good away victory at Nuneaton and look set to make the playoffs again.
