Club news

Club Championships

What a great club champs it was last weekend! The first day was playing really tough with the wind, and on the second day with the wind easing down it gave the players a chance to make a charge!

The first day saw Liam Bell and Darren Fuller within touching distance of each other, Liam shooting a 72 and Darren a 73 which was great scoring in the conditions. Simon Short was leading a whole host of players by one shot after shooting a nett 71.

Day two saw Liam come out victorious in his duel against Darren with him shooting a 69 to Darren's 70. For them to both hold it together under the pressure of the other player is testimony to just how good they both are.

The Nett championship was much tighter, Kev Benson emerged from the back with a superb nett 65, Leigh Davey also shot a gross 70 nett 65, and our overnight leader followed his 71 up with a brilliant nett 68, so this meant we went to a three-man playoff.

All three of them played brilliantly, but it was a fantastic pitch shot on the last from Simon that meant that he beat Kev by just 0.9 of a shot!

Congratulations, therefore, go to Liam Bell for winning the Gross prize and Simon Short for winning the Nett prize for this year's club championships!

Funnily enough, all three of Liam, Simon, and Kev are Darrylites, and have been working on their game with him this season, all three have also now continued their hard work and had a lesson since their club championship successes!

It just goes to show that you get out what you put in at this game!

Ladies' Divisional Cups

Wednesday and the divisional cups brought some much better conditions and a course in great condition! There were 23 ladies competing for 4 cups, well done to them all!

Grant Cup - Elaine Barker - nett 79

Curry Cup - Mandy Moore - nett 78

Kath Stones Cup - Valanteena G - nett 86

Well done to all winners, who are now £15 richer on their Pro shop accounts.

Try something new this week

Wedges that work for you

Over the past few weeks, we've worked our way through the bag, from hybrids to irons and now to wedges. Each time we've been looking at what we want from each club and how it fits into our bag. So, how well do your wedges compliment the rest of your set?

Make a change

When it comes to smashing one off the tee, there’s always a bit of push-and-pull between striking one as far as you can and simply not sending it out of bounds. For that reason, we could all do with a little forgiveness in a driver.

Can you afford to take the risk?

The ideal answer would be “What risk?”, but we’ll stay in the real world for a moment. Ultimately, you want a driver that reduces the risk of missing the fairway and makes the reward a lot more appealing.
