Well the last few days of October will fly past quickly, and with the clocks changed we are well and truly into our winter golf schedule now. For the guys we have a full winter programme to participate in, note there will be a winter yellow tee qualifier once a month too, starting this Saturday with a stableford. The first winter league is due the following Saturday. There are sheets available with the full winter programme on too.
Remember too the winter is the ideal time for swing changes with the 10 lessons for £100 still available. Also I will be doing some FlightScope lessons indoors through the winter, one evening per week, cost £20 for a half hour session. Click here to book either. Alex has been busy with fittings on the FlightScope as well, also an ideal time to look at upgrading what is in your bag.
Football wise my boys came back well to draw with Palace at the weekend. Newcastle won well at Spurs, but the best result has to be Steve Courtney, Matt and Richard Smith and Wally Walsh’s mighty Hammers taming mighty Man City. Man United looked much better on Sunday in a good game against Chelsea, having only got a point at our place on the Monday!!!
Shop wise we have seen the new PING Men’s and Ladies waterproofs through the door. The whole suit is £130, being light, breathable and windproof. Also coming with a three year waterproof guarantee they represent superb value. Causing a stir too is the recently arrived Tommy Hilfiger sweaters. Merino wool ones retail at £70 and Lambswool ones at £60. We have just dipped our toe into the Hilfiger market but they seem very well received. We plan to stock more product from them next year as a result.
Saturday saw 107 players compete in the Medal. Joe Victory won division one with a superb 68 gross, 64 nett, beating John Cox on exact handicap. John’s 74 won the gross though from James Hibbitt on the last 6. Division two saw Paul Duffield top the tree with a nett 68 and Division three saw Richard Smith triumph with a nett 69.

Saturday 11 October, 2014 - Bill Brown Rose Bowl
This competition was certainly a memorable occasion for two members of Cleethorpes G.C as they both scored 'an ace'. It was a first hole in one for Mark Appleyard and he achieved it on the 8th, par 3 with his hybrid and also John Slesser scored his on the 3rd, par 3. Well done to both!!!
Saturday 18 October 2014 - Non-qualifier
Saturday saw a non-qualifier played as two holes were shut, and a creditable 41 played. Division one was won by Pete Tingle with a super 16 hole tally of 39 points, and in second place was Gareth Thomas with 35 points. Division two saw Mark Atkins on 34 points pip Chris Dunster by a point.

The Gents outgoing Captain welcomed the new Captain, Jim Arnell into the hot seat, with new Vice Captain being Dave Reid. (The new Ladies Captain, Anne Lambert and her new Vice Captain, Christina Reid had already had their inauguration at their A.G.M.) This was followed by a new flag being raised to help celebrate 120 years as a club, with a resume of the club’s history given by Liz Stones to the members in the Clubhouse, prior to their Ladies vs Gents competition. The following match was won in the end 8.5 to 5.5 by the gents.
