Well a mixed bag of weather last week, with one 45 minute period on Wednesday seeing more rain than in all of September. The weekend saw beautiful weather, but as I type away this Monday morning it is persisting it down!!
I was in Harrogate for our trade show and buying group seminar on Tuesday and Wednesday last week and did some buying for next year as well as attending several seminars. We had a great Thai meal Tuesday night and then attended the Foremost awards ceremony on Wednesday evening, again a great night. The usual suspects are in the shopping bag for next year, Titleist across the board (balls, Vokey wedges, Scotty putters, bags, accessories and the updated fitting cart for woods and irons), PING for clubs and apparel, Motocaddy for electric trolleys, FootJoy for shoes and men’s apparel, Srixon for balls among the normal. TaylorMade were noticeably absent as their new ordering system has been an initial disaster. I will await to see the rep to see if we can work better together moving forward, otherwise I will be dropping it for next year as an instore brand. We will keep stock for use when you book a FlightScope fitting however. Having looked at a second Ladies brand to stock alongside PING next year Daily Sports looked the most appealing. Please Ladies let me have your thoughts before I commit!!!

Saturday saw 42 pairs compete for the Bill Brown Rosebowl. Simon Hewitt and Phil Robinson combined well for a winning 63. Two 64’s saw a better back nine from Alex Mason and Dave Reid edge out James Hibbitt and Matty Helstern into third. One notable was another hole in one after last week’s two. Well done John Sleeser for your fine shot on the third!!!
Cleethorpes Golf Club Men's Section
Saturday 11 October 2014 - Bill Brown Rose Bowl
This annual competition was well supported but the 'early birds' certainly saw the best for the weather:
- S.Hewitt/P.Robinson 63
- D.Reid/A.Mason 64 (on back nine)
- J.Hibbitt/M.Helstern 64
Sunday 12 October 2014 - Sunday Salver
This stableford trophy was presented to the Ladies Section by last year's Lady Captain, Margaret Quantrill and Margaret had certainly ordered some excellent weather to enhance the day. 1 Alison Fletcher with 41 points, 2 Georgia Mann with 37 points.
Margaret had also awarded 3 divisional prizes:
0-20. Gill Woodward - 37 Pts
21-28. Susan Colvin - 34 Pts
29-36. Daniella Steer - 33 Pts
Cleethorpes Golf Club Ladies Section Sunday Salver winner: Alison Fletcher being presented by last year's Lady Captain, Margaret Quantrill.
No Premiership football this week as we had an International break. England now have three wins from three, but still seem elusive on the style front. Grimsby had a great away win at Wrexham, let us hope it is the start of a table climbing run!!! Mind you many regulars feel Mr Hurst has to go still!!! Kevin Pieterson has stuck the knife into England cricket with a controversial book. I for one do not feel anyone could bully him in any way and will not be buying the book!!!
Alex has kept things ticking well whilst I have been away. Rob is now away on holiday in Morocco, and should hopefully be back to work when he is back, getting the team back to full strength. Let’s hope the weather stays good so we can see him catching up with his lessons. Don’t forget we are still taking bookings for the winter lesson offer of 10 lessons for £100. Click here to book.
Shop wise we now have FootJoy base layers in at £35. Also we have winter mitts, winter gloves and for the Ladies a very nice looking PING waterproof suit at £129. It won’t be long before we start thinking of Christmas and as usual we will be offering a put by and also a wrapping service for you to take advantage of.
Just in are the S1 and S3 models from Motocaddy at £299 and £399 respectively with 18 hole lead acid battery. Look at upgrading to Lithium, as whilst it is more expensive initially, the longevity of the battery and lightness really outweigh initial extra cost.
