A new member of the team… It seems a very short while since I last began typing the content for the newsletter, but here we are again!! I’m not going to mention the very used ‘W’ word this week, just to say the course is in excellent shape for the time of year, well done to Steve and the lads for their continued great work. Also well done to Janine and her catering gang for the 150 meals successfully served on Mothering Sunday, do try the wonderful Sunday lunch they serve up. The season is now officially upon us, and the opening summer fixture was a well-supported Texas Scramble, see the results section for the winners. This Saturday sees The Bill Brown Rosebowl being played, a fourball where you make your own fours up and enter in the shop on the day. There will be another week or so for the guys to enter the summer knock out competitions, payable with entry in the shop.

A busy week for The dazzler and myself to say the least, with many of you booking those early season fittings along with coaching sessions to hone your game. The lessons are now £23 per half hour, or the 7 lesson block is £115. Darryl also has many Junior classes to offer if you are looking to get your youngsters into the game. Please contact us for any information you require. There are some beginner groups for adults that he has created to get your family and friends involved. With the added bonus of Academy membership for beginners, this is a great way for us to grow new golfers within the club. Again see either of us for details. With us being so busy, we have acquired the services of recently retired Dave Reid to help a couple of half days a week, and have already affectionately named him Granville. Mind you that makes me Arkwright so Darryl must be nurse Gladys Emmanuel! It is good to have my great buddy on board helping!

Golf wise globally, South Korean Ko Jin-young won her first major, the ANA inspiration in California, whilst Canadian Corey Conners won The Texas Open on the men’s tour. Football wise, Daz Winfield’s Man City beat Derek Kennard’s Brighton to book their FA Cup final place. They will play Martin Lacey’s Watford who staged a stunning comeback against Alan William’s Wolves. Premiership wise, Liverpool won to go back top, with Spurs winning their first game at their new ground. Arsenal lost, so the third and fourth spots are still well up for grabs with Chelsea and Man United just behind them. My Baggies were very poor against Millwall, and there seems too big a gap now for automatic promotion, with Norwich top and Mike Reid’s Blades second. Leeds can still do it, and Villa have had a 6 game winning run to be in the play-off places at the moment. Nigel and Graham I won’t mention Forest, and to all our Grimsby die hards just what has happened lately? Well boys and girls that’s it for this week, please pop in for a chat or a browse, and if we can help you in any way with your golf remember we are here!

A driver is a powerful beast, sometimes too powerful if a hole has a hazard within range. In this scenario, you have a plethero of options to choose from, but there is one that is often overlooked. |
Picture the scene You're stood on a par-4 tee box and there’s a water hazard 240 yards away. What do you do? Many of you will reach for your longest iron on auto-pilot, however a custom-fitted fairway wood might just be the perfect solution; getting you further down the hole and closer to the green. | |
|
Why is this often overlooked? A lot of golfers don't have confidence in hitting their fairway wood because, quite simply, they don't use it enough. But with technology to help you hit them better - such as a Tungsten weight in PING's G410 fairway wood that increases forgiveness - it's time you gave them another go. |
Custom fitting is key We're delighted to see so many of you come to us for a custom fit when you're after a new driver or set of irons, but why does it stop there? A custom fitting is so important in ensuring you get the most from any new purchase, whether that's a driver, fairway wood or putter. |
