Had a great time watching The Ryder Cup on the telly on Friday, Saturday and Sunday!! Not as good as Micko who took Rob’s place and went with Nick Bradsell for all three days. I look forward to sharing his pictures with you when he is back, and in his words "it was awesome". I know several other members were there for at least part of it, so please send me your pictures guys, I'd love to see the footage!!!
Well done to Paul McGinley who was simply world class as Captain. By contrast one of my all time favourites and true gentleman of the game in Tom Watson did not seem to have his finger on the pulse, and alas Phil Mickleson seemed to have alluded to this in the press conference. It was great to see Jamie Donaldson play the Ryder Cup winning hole too. McIlroy was superb on Sunday, Rose perhaps player of the tournament though. Also it was good to see some emerging United States players for the future, as we want to see equally great play from this event in the future. One note for golf is, do we need more play of this nature with noise and quicker play to bring our great game into the modern world arena??? Click here and please tell me your thoughts!
Football wise Sunday’s 4-0 thrashing of Burnley by my boys helped cap a great weekend off. United spluttered to victory against an unlucky West Ham, and Rooney was, well just the idiot again!! Chelsea and Man City march onward, but a valiant display by Hull against City. Grimsby continued a good run of form to move up the table with a 3-0 win at home to Chester.
Shop and lesson wise the benign weather has helped keep us busy. Remember the winter lesson deal is now on at 10 lessons for £100, and it is the ideal time for a course of lessons to rebuild your game ready for 2015. We will also be rolling out some evening FlightScope lesson sessions in the indoor area so look out for details of times and cost.
With plenty of Autumn wear clothing due in along with shoes and waterproofs we look forward to kitting you out to cope with colder conditions as will no doubt arrive at some point.
Rob Goodway will have had the broken femur x-rayed by the time you read this, hopefully then allowing him to start putting weight through the leg to speed his recovery up. He is on holiday mid October for two weeks and we then anticipate a slow return to duties, getting the team back up to three strong for the Christmas push.
With the remedial work done on the greens we should slowly see the greens get back to a good state, indeed they are not putting too badly already. Rob and his merry men will be cutting away this week to bring the course back to the good condition it has stayed in this year. On his agenda are tee coring, long rough cutting and general repair work for the winter too.
Saturday saw me put a Pro Stableford on. Darren Fuller fired a superb 39 points to win division 1 from a 37 point Jim Bell effort. Darren had just had a great lesson with me so it was most pleasing to see him shoot 67, haven’t the top boys shot some great golf round here this year?? Division 2 saw Shaun Mitchell pip Fullop Szep 41 points to 40. Well done to these lads for such good scores too!!
One note to say unlucky to Gill Kapka and Judith Gorman who just lost out in the last round of the Daily Mail foursomes, thus missing the grand final. Well done for getting so far though.
