Sport update… It was FA Cup weekend and the end of a great run by Newport, who came undone against a strong Man City side. A mouth-watering tie between Chelsea and Man United takes place Monday night, with United hoping to bounce back after Ole’s first defeat last week in The Champions League. Darryl was helped in his recovery by Spurs’s great 3-0 success in their Champion league tie. Wolves, Palace, Swansea, Brighton, Millwall and Watford also secure quarter final places in the Cup. My Baggies won well at Villa, although Villa looked an old and slow side to be fair, and The Mariners continue a fine run with a fourth straight win to now sit 6 points off a play-off place. Golf wise, American J.B Holmes won in California, Mcllory gaining another top 5 finish as he looks to get back to World number one. American Nelly Corda won The Ladies Australian Open, with Ryan Fox winning the men’s event in Australia.
Other news… Course wise, it’s really dry for the time of year and the boys have it in fine order. Partly due to the weather, but also due to their hard work and knowledge. Keep it up lads! Don’t forget to try Janine’s superb Sunday lunches too, they are one of the town’s best kept secrets, and such great value. Lastly this week is the sad loss of Hilary Murray. She was given a fine farewell, with her son Mike speaking warmly of this lovely lady. She was great to teach, great fun, and a true supporter of our golf community. I will miss you Hilary, always immaculate, always kind, and only golf made you negative! Mind you it does me! My Daughter Alex is back in town Saturday 9th March to put on a show with her old Blaze friends at the Blaze theatre near Riby Square. I know many of you have enjoyed her performances before and have asked often how she is getting on. This concert is in memory of her recently departed Nanna and all proceeds are for The Hospice. If anyone would like a ticket please ask me, she would love to see you there to support her. I believe tickets are £10 each and there is a bar there too!! Well that’s it for this week, have a good one! I am here until Saturday and then off on my holidays for 10 days, ironically booked because last winter was so bad, and yet we will leave when temperatures could be 16 degrees! In February! Have a great week, and look forward to seeing many of you down at the club.
