Summary of the year…
There was terrible weather disrupting January, February and March making the cutting of the course so difficult. Steve and the boys were pulling their hair out, with members not happy as the course had been closed more in this period than in my memory as Pro! Most troubling was it was the worst two trading months I had ever had!
In March Rob departed, I was sorry to see my mate go but his love of the job had waned as he just didn’t like the technology now in use to deliver the service you guys need! We are still great friends and the only reason I have not seen much of him is how busy I subsequently became when firstly The Dazzler arrived on the scene, and secondly the weather completely reversed for the best summer since 1976. Steve and the boys became traumatised by the lack of water, but the upkeep of the course was of a high standard with all the trials and tribulations.
From March on I become much happier as the sun brings great times to the shop, and The Dazzler brings an infectious enthusiasm into the building. The only downside is I suddenly do more hours than I have in a long time to keep up with the young whipper snapper’s whirlwind pace.
We welcomed Mizuno into the shop this year and boy has it proved a winner, PING was as good as ever and TaylorMade were steady. Titleist did struggle due to club performance and brand arrogance which is too much stock holding. Why would we have stock clubs when all our club business is custom fitted now all done by The Dazzler. Lessons were extremely busy with a great rivalry developing between The Paulites and The Darrylites!!
Personally, I had great times with my partner Lorraine and the kids and Grandkids, three of each. My Dad, as many of you know not so good, but battling on, and I seem to keep getting a smile out of him! (Many of The Senior Section may not believe this)
Football wise, it was sad to see The Baggies relegated, but they are battling hard in The Championship to return, although Norwich and Leeds are above them right now. Man City deservedly won The Premiership, but Liverpool top them right now, is it their turn? Man United are looking poor, do they need a new manager? Spurs are in the top 4, making The Dazzler Dazzle even more excited, and a late run this term in The Champions League getting them into the knockout stages. All in all attacking football creating more success! Golf wise, it was great to see Molinari win The Open, Justin Rose become world number one, and a stunning Ryder Cup win against what looked like a stronger USA team.
All in all I have loved 2108, got all three Kids and all three Grandkids for Christmas, can’t stop smiling. Hope you have enjoyed the newsletters, next one will be week beginning 7th January. I hope this summary has amused you, keep smiling like our very own Dazzler!! Have a great Christmas and New Year and may 2019 bring you golf success, don’t forget we are here to help that with our depth of knowledge (well one of us before you say anything Reidy!) Have a great Christmas! Paul and Darryl.
