Well another week nearer Christmas! This year seems to be flying by, aided by the continued excellence of the weather, considering we are into December nearly! Enjoy this week's read.

Club news

Keep up the good work!

A big congratulations to Steve and the rest of the greenstaff for their continued improvement of the course. The recent scarifying and blowing away of the dead grass has really made the course look superb for the time of year. This helps us sell the club so well and to improve the membership numbers and keep us vibrant as a club. Also the excellent service from Janine and her gang in the clubhouse is a big selling point. Have you tried the Sunday lunch? Go on it is fabulous!

We like to think we give a good service from the coaching and shop side too, but are always looking to improve. To this end, look out for our survey about our services coming out early in the New Year.

The countdown is on…

Shop wise, we remain busy in the lead up to Christmas. Our recent Black Friday involvement went well, and we will be keeping out gents and ladies sale rails going right through, mainly to clear the summer remnants. There are some great bargains so pop in for a look! Remember our put by and wrapping services is available for Christmas too.

Lesson wise it is slowing down now in that frantic run up to Christmas along with the early dark nights, but the winter lesson offers remain in place for you to take advantage of. Darryl is also offering beginner class times and the latest class is 10am-11am starting this Sunday, £30 for a five week course. Competition news

What would you like to play?

One puzzling thing for me is the continued poor turn outs for any winter 4 ball events we put on. Last week we had 51 entries for the individual silly pins (would have been more if competitors were able to play in four balls, this is on the cards to be okayed by the way) and yet only 4 fourballs entered this week’s Am Am. If you want different formats please contact me here.

When we set the winter programme we try to mix it up. We appreciate weather can massively disrupt as it did last winter, but by and large good conditions so far this winter mean that has not influenced decisions not to enter. Again thoughts on improvements are most welcome to put to the committee for discussion.

Sport update

My baggies won a poor game against Ipswich on Friday, but most of their rivals for promotion also won at the weekend to keep them in 4th spot. Grimsby managed a good draw away, whilst in the Premiership Man City continue to look favourites to win the title, although Liverpool are performing well too. Man United look bereft of ideas at the moment, but a convincing win for Darryl’s Spurs against an out of sorts Chelsea.

Divide and conquer

Sometimes in golf, it's the little things which really grind your gears.
