Well the weather is yet again dominating our thoughts, life as a greenkeeper is tough right now as they continue to battle the wet spells in their attempts to make the cutting look good! As I type, we now have freezing cold high winds and the threat of rain in the air. Who would be a Golf pro right now? Enjoy this week’s newsletter!

An excellent opportunity With the above said, we have to take the positives as we have a great looking shop, loads of great work going on in The Studio, and Darryl is now starting to find lesson bookings on the up. Also his first sessions with the juniors are going well as he looks to build up the junior section to a better level once again. This is a general trend across the country as we all battle PlayStations and the like in our efforts to get the youngsters more active. The plus points for getting them into golf range from fitness, focus and fun to learning how to be part of a community, so I encourage all parents and grandparents to look into getting them on some of Darryl’s classes to have a go. There is an excellent opportunity with Open Day looming on Sunday 6th May (this weekend folks) to get them to sample some of that fun and to get them onto the course for a little go at playing.

Time for a trade-in Shop wise, we are full to bursting, and have a great array of shoes with an official shoe trade in just starting. Skechers and FootJoy seem neck and neck in popularity right now, and with lots for both men and ladies, I recommend a trying on session. PING bags have a £20 trade in offer too right now, so a good time to buy a bag! Also just a reminder that we currently have some clearance stock for sale on our ebay shop, mainly autumn clothing and both men’s and ladies. If you buy any items, collect in person to avoid postage costs, the site is cleethorpesproshop.

Studio benefits The poor weather last week meant that a lot of lesson sessions were transferred to the Studio. I have noticed that after an initial reluctance to take beginners in there and the weather sort of forcing the issue, these new players are getting huge benefits from the information on display. Russ King saw a marked improvement in his figures as we changed his ‘press’ to the ball. Visit our Facebook page here to see a video of him during his lesson. Lesson tariff is £20 per Studio half hour lesson and we have our outdoor 7 for £100 summer lesson block available too. Contact us here to find out more.

Sports round-up International golf saw Billy Horschel and Scott Piercy win the Zurich pairs in New Orleans, whilst Swede Alexander Bjork won his first title on The European Tour in the China Open in Beijing. Lydia Ko got back to winning ways to win the LPGA Mediheal in California. Charlie Hull finished 3rd but our own Holly Clyburn alas missed the cut. Football wise, my boys have another stay of execution after a fine win at Newcastle, whilst Grimsby Town had a fine win against Notts County to secure their league status. Man city thrashed West Ham, who remain close to the relegation places. Swansea also lost, whilst Stoke got a good point and Southampton won, keeping relegation possibilities at a premium. Man United won their last ever encounter against Arsenal with Mr Wenger in charge. Last week Liverpool and Roma played a great game, with Liverpool letting in two late away goals to keep it interesting. Well that’s all to report this week, have a great week, let’s hope for better weather and look forward to seeing you all in the week! Paul
