Well Rory is definitely one of golf’s greats now after a gutsy 16 under par win in the USPGA. Mickelson was second on 15 under from Stenson and Fowler, and there were notable displays from a host of Brits including Westwood, Warren, Donaldson, Rose and Willey. Let’s hope Rory gives golf that much needed shot in the arm to inspire young kids and also adults to take up the game.
Grimsby got a decent away draw in their first game of the new campaign at Bristol Rovers. We look forward to the start of the Premiership next week!!! Up The Baggies!!!
Lastly on 'out of club' sports, what a turnaround for the England cricket team with back to back test wins over India to now lead the series 2-1.
Club news now and firstly a massive well done to Jack Woodhams as he won a 36 hole major Lincs boys Woodroof Walter title at Belton Park last Friday with a 63 and 70. Also now he is into single figures and hot on the heels of fellow Jack Evans in the three Jacks handicap race. Note Jack Garland is hot on their heels too!!!
Thursday saw the Curry Cup take place for the 55 and over brigade. Top of the tree was Roger Holt who won over old stager Chris Warren with a better exact handicap 70. Third was taken by Alan Dear on 71 and fourth by John Stanley on 72.
Saturday saw very difficult windy conditions for the Moody Cup. Winner was Steve ‘The Hammer’ Courtney on 67. Second on an exact handicap 68 was Andy Garton from Darren Gough and then Mark Pearson. Best gross on 71 (same as Andy G) was Martin Warren.
Sunday saw the course close itself with torrential flooding, thus meaning the Peckett Cup was postponed until 24th August, the new list being back on the mixed board. Testament again to the drainage and the greens boys is that amazingly we were open on Monday!! Plenty of water pumping going on mind you!!!
Shop wise I am gearing up for a few days off in August, with some house painting duties and then a trip to see my eldest Daughter and Grandkids the last week of August. That said we are still busy with lessons and fittings. Please note that the winter pack lessons of 10 for £100 will start from the 1st September so contact us if you wish to book in.
