Well another week has flown by and again the weather has been an interrupting factor in our week. The course is open as I type away this Monday morning, but with no trolleys allowed. However the course should dry out now as the forecast for the week is sunny and windy! I look forward to not mentioning the weather soon. Enjoy the read!

A busy time in the studio as we are still doing a lot of fittings (That’s the royal we as I mean Darryl), Mizuno irons are really proving a hit right now so get booked in for your fitting with Darryl, currently FREE through April.

Today (Monday) sees a two day installation and training of a new till system as we strive to further improve our service model to you all. Stay patient as we get used to it, thankfully I have Darryl to lean on with the new technology! (No disrespect to Rob but we don’t need two old fossils trying to negotiate our way round a system!).

Competition news

The Seddon Cup - Postponed

The first major competition, The Seddon Cup, has had to be deferred due to the course being still so wet. I will let you know the rearranged fixtures as we go. Also note that the draw for the men’s knockouts will finally be made this week.

I also now have more pros than teams for the Pro-Am on Friday 25th May, so pop in to book a team in if you want to participate in this great day. Note there is a live band playing after the presentation too!

Did anyone see the West Brom score?

I have not wanted to talk football much of late, but a great result for The Baggies at Man United has to get a mention. Too late to stay up but at least now showing some passion under Darren Moore and I hope they give him a go for next season. Spurs lost to man City who deservedly take the title. Well done to Wolves on their promotion, shame Alan Williams we won’t be playing you next season.

Quite a short spiel this week guys as we are prepping for our till training session, pop in for a browse and don’t forget those lesson programmes with the outdoor summer lesson offer at 7 lessons for £100. Studio lessons are now £20 per half hour.

Also note, Darryl is starting his junior coaching programmes this week. Roll up class is Saturdays 10am – 11am, whilst the Passport to Golf structured learning classes are Saturdays 2pm – 3pm. A change in distance

The changes to the Rules of Golf are fast approaching with 2019 now less than nine months away, so we thought we’d take a closer look at one common rule that’s getting a makeover.

Change of procedure when taking relief
Currently, you must drop your ball within two club-lengths from the nearest point of relief when taking a penalty drop.

Under the new rule (17.1c), from 2019 you’ll need to use the longest club in your bag (other than a putter) to measure one club-length or two club-lengths depending on the situation.

The other alteration comes when dropping the golf ball. At present, you must drop your ball from shoulder height when taking relief, but this will change to knee height from 2019.

Are you a V or X?

When it comes to golf balls, there are two questions we hear on an almost daily basis, both concerning Titleist’s Pro V1 and Pro V1x. So we thought we’d take this opportunity to let you all know the answers...

What’s the difference between V and X?
Both of the Pro V1 balls are designed to provide long and short game performance, but there are subtle differences from tee-to-green.

While both feel soft, the Pro V1 is a little softer and has a penetrating flight that delivers more roll from the tee, whereas the Pro V1x feels firmer and flies higher.

Which one should I play?
If it’s a straight shootout between the Pro V1 and Pro V1x, then you’re going to benefit from distance, control and feel either way.

Both models are used on tour by players such as Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas, but it really comes down to your personal feel preference and which characteristics suit your game, which we can discuss during a ball fitting.
