Well the Open was a great success again, with Rory McIlroy in great form to take the title from an ever unlucky Sergio Garcia and Ricky Fowler. He is only the third man to have won three majors by the age of 25, joining the two greatest to have graced the game in Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods. Let’s hope it inspires many youngsters to the game!!!
Down at the club the stableford on Saturday saw division 1 stormed by Mark Godfrey with 45 points. This got him to single figures for the first time. Second in that division was Matty Helstern with 39 points, and this got him to a 3.1 handicap. Division 2 was won with a better countback 38 points by a rejuvenated Glenn Wishart from John Riley.

Sunday 13 July, 2014 - Junior Open
Sunday saw the Junior Open. Firstly well done to Bill and Judy Garton for getting an entry of 29, all the more remarkable when you see so few clubs able to get their own event off the ground these days. Some excellent scores were recorded, especially taking the inclement weather conditions into consideration. The winning gross and nett titles went away from home to Best Gross 1. Jacob Morley 71 (Market Rasen) 2. Jake Pacey 77, (Canwick Park) and Best Nett: 1. Lewis Andrew 85-22 = 63, (Kenwick), 2. Adam Lawis 92-27 = 65 (Clee), 3. Freddie Fearn 94-27=67 (Kenwick). A 9 hole competition 2. Matthew Ross, 57-19 = 38, 3. Joshua Ringrose, 71-27=44 (Laceby)

Recently the seniors had an away day where 28 of their section went to Driffield. Overall winner was John Crockhart, with Peter Billam, Dave Rushworth and Derek Broughton also in the prizes. Derek Broughton is now stepping down from organising the role after a sterling 11 years service.
Shop wise the new Titleist fitting cart has gone down a storm, aided by the FlightScope technology. The G30 iron demo clubs have also seen much activity and we eagerly await the arrival of the woods for you to try. Don’t forget FlightScope fitting is £25 for a 40 minute session.
Many of you are also using the loft and lie fitting service now, £20 per check and change for a full set of irons.
Dates to remember are the second Invitation Day on 2nd August where there are still spots. Entry is £15 per pair, payable when you enter in the shop. Also the draw is now done for Championship Day and there are 4 spots available to play, see us in the shop to put your name down. Lastly note we now have forms for entry to the Charity D, payable with entry in the shop. Date is August 30th and remember what a great day this always is!!!!!
Note amazingly Sunday saw the course closed after over 2” rain fell overnight, but testament to the set up of the course that it looked clear when I arrived on Monday and was back to all 18 holes, albeit with bunkers GUR for the day. With the grass still going mad it must be a hard time to be a greenkeeper!! Point of interest to note is that Rob Welford headed the team of bunker rakers for the recent Open at Hoylake.
We are still busy teaching so click here to contact us for any tuition
Well very short and sweet this week, have a great week Paul.
