Lincolnshire County Scratch League champions – Dave Reid report This is our fifth win in eight years, justanother fantastic year with great support from the members of Cleethorpes golf club. It was a really closely run final against Sleaford at Waltham. About an hour from the end of play it looked irretrievable but the team pulled together and put in some great finishes. The guys that were down fought to keep their losses to a minimum and that in the end paid dividends, the final result running out at 3-3 and it went down to holes won within the individual games and fortunately we won by one hole which couldn't have been much closer. It felt like justice and sweet revenge after losing out to Sleaford at Thorney Lakes last year. I'm so proud of the team that we have at Cleethorpes and for the support that you guys give to the club and the team. 12 players won the game but the team is more than just the 12 players that won the league, there have been some fantastic results from all those that have contributed. None more so that at the North Lincs league final held at Louth against Carholme, played on a bank holiday weekend when a lot of the regular team were not available, one pairing that springs to mind was Max and Louie who had a great result on the day that helped us through to the league final, Dings return to the team and contribution was nothing but impressive. I would personally like to thank you all for your support no matter how small a part you played in contributing to Cleethorpes winning the league, again it is appreciated in every way. |
