Well another very hectic week as this season seems to be flying by a little too fast for my liking! (Doesn’t time seem to go quicker as we age!)

Saturday saw good weather for Men’s Invitation Day, see the results sheet further down. The Ladies also had their Invitation day on Wednesday last week and I think the handicap committee are now looking closely at Helen Austin, again see below for all the results. Lastly well done to Chris Reid on her recent win.

Men’s section

A great invitation day on Saturday saw Sean Cook and his partner fend off Nigel Leach and his guest with a betterball score of 45 points winning the tie on the last 6. Rob was busy organising the no lose bet on the 8th, whilst I had a busy day in the shop. The course was in fantastic order and all guests commented that they felt it is in the best condition ever! Janine and her gang fed and watered the troops well, with thanks to the half-way house Ladies and the starters on the day.

Ladies section

On a very blustery but dry day the ladies played the Invitation Day betterball competition, it proved challenging to most pairs but the winning team seemed to be playing a different course as their amazing score beat the second place pair by 12 points. Even after playing 36 holes the day before, Lady Captain Janet Smith from Grimsby and Cleethorpes member Helen Austin came in with a fabulous score of 50 points to win.

On Friday the Grannies Cup was played for at Cleethorpes, the daughters of Floss Brown who donated this trophy come each year to present the cup which is much appreciated by the lady members. A slightly smaller number than usual played as lots of members went to watch the Ladies Open at Kingsbarnes. The winner was Chris Reid who declared she did it for her granddaughter Parker Lily, with second place going to Anne Poultney and third was Gwen Farmery.

• Tuesdays through August 2pm – 3pm - Junior roll up class, £3 per pupil.
• Tuesdays through August - Lady members chipping class, £5 per pupil.
• Wednesday 16th and Wednesday 30th August 10am – 3pm - Junior golf school, £10 per pupil, all levels catered for.
• Tuesday 15th August - Putting clinic 6pm 7pm - £10 per pupil, 3 spaces left
• Tuesday 22nd August - short game clinic 6 till 7, £10 per pupil, 6 spaces left
• Friday 25th August - Titleist fitting day - Spaces available from 2.30pm - 4.00pm.

Sport update

Sport wise Korean Kim In-kyung won The Ladies British Open with a great last round from Jodi Ewart Shadoff propelling her into 2nd spot. Our own Holly alas did not make the cut.

In America, Hideki Matsuyana equalled the course record at the WGC Bridgestone to win.

England’s cricketers are pursuing a series win against South Africa as I type, whilst a great opening day win for the mighty mariners on Saturday in front of 2700 travelling fans.
