Men’s section Sunday saw the Cleethorpes men’s championship day, 36 holes of medal play with the course prepared to its finest by Steve Beverley and his wonderful team. There were 56 players in this elite competition and the winner was Liam Bell who managed to win both the nett and gross cups. However the Bloomer Cup is the Club Champion and Liam recorded an excellent 67 + 70 = 137. In second place was Martin Warren 71 + 69 = 140, third was Matthew Helstern 75 +74 = 149. Pictured Captain Glen Wishart & Liam Bell Senior men’s section Cleethorpes Seniors played their monthly stableford in dry conditions after the rain of late, which allowed for a good turnout. The scratch to 12 division was won by John Slesser with 15 points just pushing Richard Ward into 2nd place with 14 points. 13 to 14 division was won by a regularSteve Parrott with 17 points again just pipping another regular of late, John Crockart who scored 16 points to take second place, the 14s group saw Ivan Wilson lose out on count back to Brian Whitehead who scored 10 points Ladies’ section On a day that promised to soak the lady golfers, the sun did shine later on and a good day was had at Cleethorpes. The Centenary cup is a medal competition and the winner was Julia Sales with a nett 74, second was Helen Austin with 75 and third was Anne Poultney with 76. Julia has returned to play at Cleethorpes after 20 years playing elsewhere and is enjoying the friendly banter plus she is playing excellent golf.
