Weekly Update

Well another week has flown by as the golf season is now in full swing. Tuesday saw 2 inches of rain, but apart from the bunkers the course stood up very well indeed, and the general comments are that it is the best it has ever looked.

Friday saw 23 teams compete in the Annual Artie White golf day, with Lee and Loui Cockerill combing with Max Robinson and Keith Collins to win another great day. The money raised goes to support local charities by the way.

Saturday saw The Chamber of Trade Cup and was won on plus 4 by Sam Blades on a better back 9 from Paul Gorman. The morning weather was poor so entries were a little down for the first time this season on a Saturday.

Sunday should have seen The Father and Son played, but a low entry led to a cancellation. We will attempt to replay it later in the year.

Competition results

Youth Wins the Day

The Chamber of Trade Cup winner was 21 year old Sam Blades with a great score of +4, taking it on count back from Paul Gorman who also recorded +4, in third place was Andy Taylor with +3. This is a competition played against the course par so these three players all beat the course which is in fabulous condition as many of the players commented after their rounds.

Ladies Stableford

The Ladies had the annual visit from Patricia Allison who travels from Lincoln to present a cup donated by her mother 56 years ago to help teach the ladies how to score a stableford card.

The winner was Alison Fletcher with 35 points, second was Christina Reid with 33 points and third Nanette Gough with 32 points. The ladies all had a proper battle with the wind but all came in smiling and Patricia enjoyed her Cleethorpes Golf Club fish & chips.

Studio news

Play on our Simulator

The Studio is having a great impact on lesson time and fittings. With the course play option also now available we are looking forward to seeing many of you use the facility. I am loving teaching in there, with the Flightscope information it's a real reinforcement tool for my teaching ideas.

There is still the one per customer opening £10 lesson to trial it, followed by a three for £50 lesson pack exclusively for the Studio. Lastly I am offering a 4 player lesson and course play hour for £50 per fourball, click here to book any of these offers in!

Shirts and Shoes Selling Well

Within the store we are seeing great sales of shirts and shoes as the season goes on. With our self-serve shoe wall you really can see the range on offer, so pop in for a browse. Wedges have gone well of late as people are looking to improve their scoring opportunities around the greens under the pressure of competitive play.

I always say the long game creates scoring opportunities and the short game converts them. My own wedge play has been letting me down badly, but I have been working on it on The Flightscope and it seems to be paying dividends. Again the Studio is not just for long game stuff, so book in for that wedge play lesson!

Click here to book in your session.

Don't forget we are still offering £10 off any shirt, perfect time for a new shirt with the expected weather.

Members news

Hole In One Club

PJ Riley played early doors on Wednesday last week with myself and Ray Crome and holed out on the 3rd for his second ever hole in one!

All the more remarkable as the strong wind meant he had to hit a 4 iron for the 145 yards shot!

Congratulations to PJ and remember if you have a success story to tell us about home or away please click here.

Sport Update

Some great sport at the weekend, firstly an England side has won a football world cup, brilliant from our under 20 side! The England main side snatched a late draw in Scotland, who I thought were the better team. Where are the creative midfielders we need badly as a national side? Also a young England rugby team won a great game in Argentina, and The Lions looked better in winning too. Lastly a great win for The England cricket team to send Australia home in The ICC cricket.

Golf wise in the world, American Daniel Berger won The Fed ex St Jude Classic in America, Poulter was top Englishman in 31st place on -2. The Lyoness Open was won by South African Dyaln Fritelli, whilst best placed Englishman was David Horsey in joint second. Holly finished tied 62nd in Canada on the LPGA tour and won nearly $4000 for her efforts.
