Pro-Am

Well a fine weekend of golf took place at our course last week, with the course presented in superb condition firstly for Friday's Pro -Am. With the course playing as it did and the pins accessible the scoring reflected as you will see by the results section.

Well done to Paul Streeter for his Pro course record of 64, and our own Sophie Walker posting the ladies Pro record of 67, and after starting with a 7!!! Winning team was guided in by Andrew hare, and consisted of Remi and Paul Clyburn and Sean 'Beef' Melhuish whose better back 9 and 122 score pipped Jim Bennett, Mark Crome, Andy Wilkins and Phil 'the putt' Taylor. See the main board for all scores, and note I was not last, but my 80 could have been better if I can get my wedge and chipping play going!!! Next year maybe??

Thanks to all who played and helped, notably Julian on The PGA desk, Liz who sorted the halfway house out and Ray Crome who gets such great sponsorship and teams for the event. Note also the great job Pete Watts did in leading the greenstaff as Steve was away (not his fault we had to change the date due to Midland PGA!). The food side was so well done again by Janine and her staff, so my thanks to them also. Thanks Chris Warren, Bill Garton and John Bayliss who were the starters on the day, great job. One hiccup on the day was a Pro not turning up, and special thanks to Steve Brattan who acted as a Pro for one of Ray's sponsor teams. This averted a disaster as his guys had travelled from Liverpool!!!

The Les Stones Memorial Cup

Saturday saw The les Stones Memorial Cup and the shop was proud to have 'whistling' Les's picture at the check in desk. Well done to Darren Fuller whose fine gross 67, nett 67 saw him win and get back to plus one. Reidy said he missed loads of putts of under 6 foot too!!! Sunday then saw The captain's am am, and 40 three balls played in lovely conditions. See the results sheet below, and winners note your vouchers are presented on Captain's day if you could attend.

Competition results

Senior Results

What a difference a week makes, Cleethorpes Seniors played their Monthly Stableford in overcast but warm conditions.

David Oxborough played the game of his life to take the 14s group prize with 20 points, losing 2 off his senior handicap. Derek Fitzgerald coming back into form headed the division 2 players with 15 points. Narrowly beaten was Eric Woolley who scored 14 points to take second place. Division 1 was won by Mike Wayne with 17 points, closely followed by Roy Bull who took second place with 16 points.

Last week we palyed for the Stan Dyke Rose bowl and best net Stableford Shield. Steve Parrott again a good run of wins won the Stan Dyke Rose Bowl with a 101 gross net 73 and Roger Lockwood won the Stableford Shield for best Gross with 91 gross.

Ladies Section

Chris Sherburn presents the Golden Jubilee Trophy each year as she donated this to the ladies section in her Captaincy year.

The ladies play a Better ball Stableford and this year our defending ladies managed to pull it out of the bag again.

Congratulations again to our two time winners Liz Stones and Pauline Smith.

Mens Section

A 115 men played the Les Stones Memorial Trophy and the conditions were perfect which produced excellent scoring with the top 11 players all under par.

The winner with a fabulous score was Darren Fuller 67-0=67. Second was Graham Ross 83-15=68 taking it from David Colvin 84-16=68.

Annual Pro-Am at Cleethorpes

Yet another really fabulous day was enjoyed by 160 golfers. Paul Davies organises lots of local professionals to come and play and members and visitors all remarked on the excellent condition of the course.

The winning professional was Paul Streeter with a score of 64!!! The winning team was Andrew Hare (pro), Sean Melhuish, Remi Clyburn, Paul Clyburn with a score of 122 (-18).

Shop news

Update

Shop wise The Pro-Am made for a busy time last week, I am always pleased when the day is done and we can now focus on shop and tuition duties.

The studio is getting rave reviews and the offer of a one per customer lesson for £10 in there is still ongoing. Also on offer is a three studio lesson deal for £50 thereafter.

Click here to book either of our lesson promotions.

In store we are really pleased with the layout. We are still having issues with the new price ticketing solution we have signed up to, but when we can implement this we feel we are really on top of the retail side of what we do. Pop in for a browse and don't forget to print off the shirt offer voucher!

Golf wise Jason Dufner made a great comeback after a third round 77 to win The Memorial in The States, whilst in Europe The Nordea Masters was won by Italy's 20 year old Renato Paratore from the two Englishmen of Wood and Fitzpatrick.
