Club news

Well the first thing to do this week is to congratulate Joe Victory ( see results for rest of scores ) for a fantastic 65 gross, nett 61 to win the Moody Cup on Saturday. All the more remarkable as the conditions were tough with that persistent North easterly wind continuing to keep conditions cold as well as difficult.

Also to mention that the delayed Winter League final took place last week with Pete Tingle and Dave Ellis combing expertly to defeat Laddy and Bradders

I don't want to, but have to report Captain Glenn and I took a 7 and 5 drubbing off 'on fire firemen' Richard Gibson and Mark Fuller last Wednesday. I didn't play too badly but when a 16 and 15 handicapper knock it past you nearly every time for nett 0, and both can chip and putt well, you know the writing is on the wall. I'm not sure what clever CONGU person came up with 9/10ths handicap, but it isn't right! Moan over!

Sunday saw the Club Open day, and again, despite that freezing wind, a fantastic turn out. The participants had some tuition and then were allowed onto the course to have a go at playing. This sparked much interest and saw several youngsters join on the day, as well as various adults signing up to the great Academy scheme we have in place. Well done to all concerned for showing our Club in such a great light, the atmosphere was very good indeed, helped by Janine having a host of people in for Sunday Lunch at the time as well!!

Studio news

Studio wise a quiet week as main man Nik B has been away sunning himself. The mat is here (too big!) and should be in back end of the week. Once the net surround has been properly covered and snagging is finished, we will be good to go!!!

When we are up and running I will be offering an opening lesson session in there for each person at £10 per half hour.

This cannot be used with any other lesson packs, please click the link and leave an email address and I will contact you to book in as soon as we are up and running.

Tour news

Football and Golf

Sport wise Chelsea look favourite now to win the league from spurs. Liverpool cling on to a Champions Leagues spot, as do Man City (a good win 5-0!) Man United struggled against Arsenal to dent their chances. Albion managed to score at last to pick up a point at Burnley and stay 8th, whilst at the bottom Hull (sorry Brats and Tony D!) are now in the relegation places.

Leachy and Purds Nottingham Forest survived at the bottom of the Championship, whilst Lewis Peter's Newcastle became Champions. Nice to see Derek Kennard's Brighton into the top flight too. Playoff place for Sheff Wed for Mr Tingo and Tony H!

Golf wise the new Golf Sixes format proved popular with players interacting with fans. Denmark beat Australia in the final. The US saw The Wells Fargo played and a good comeback for Dustin Johnson who finished 2nd alongside Pat Perez. Winner was Brian Harman, whilst Spain's Jon Rahm fared well, as did Paul Casey.

Competition news

Men's Section

The Moody Cup was played on Saturday in very blustery and cold Cleethorpes conditions and 142 men took part with only 16 of those scoring under par. Joseph Victory won, going out in 32 and coming back in 33 with 7 birdies and 9 pars scoring an amazing nett 61 which is only one shot off the course record. Second was Sean Melhuish who was 3 shots behind on a nett 64. Third was Rick Gilliatt with nett 65, all great scores but hats off to Joseph playing so well in tough conditions.

Ladies Section

The ladies of Cleethorpes Golf Club suffered horrid cold and blustery weather on Wednesday when they played for the Bunnies Cup (for ladies who haven't won any other cups) and a English Golf Medal competition plus a 9 hole competition this is to ensure that all ladies are encouraged to come and take part on a Wednesday.

Winner of the Bunnies Cup was Trudi Owen, in second was Elaine Blastland. Winner of the EGM was Kate Appleyard, second was Jo Gibbons and third Sheila Walsh. Winner of the 9 holes competition was Margaret Hewitt.

Shop news

Coaching Update

Shop wise a busy week of coaching to say the least. With many taking advantage of the summer lesson offer of 7 lessons for £100 and with a raft of classes on it has made for a full dairy. It is amazing how tiring it has been battling the icy wind!! Hopefully the wind is due to change direction and we should therefore have warmer conditions by the time you read this!

With a full shop of goodies and now well into the main playing season we are also busy in store. Putter testing is going on right now, but a change of putter is only any good with a sound technique.

My recommendation is to book a putting lesson, I have seen real improvement in four recent individual players from a £20 putting lesson. Also on the putting front there will be another putting class on Tuesday, 30 May 6.00pm till 7.00pm. I will be following this up with a second short game class on Tuesday, 6 June 6.00pm till 7.00pm priced at £10 per person. Please click the link here to book in for any of the above sessions.

Titleist

Also on going is the two Vokey wedge deal of 2 for £220.

The Titleist fitting day is seeing a lot of interest. The date is Wednesday, 31 May on the big practice ground, appointment only.

Free times left are 12.30pm, 1.30pm, 2.00pm and 2.30pm so if you want a full fitting with their Tech rep please click the link to book in.
