Greetings from Paul Davies
Cleethorpes Golf Club - PGA Golf Professional

Well another week has literally flown by, aided by generally good weather. The greenstaff, still one short as Mr Welford recuperates from his shoulder operation, are doing a sterling job in keeping the course in good order, and indeed are gradually taming the rough to a degree. It is still tough if you are off the fairway, making scoring generally much higher than the same time last year.

Well done to young Cameron Tuck who won the Williamson Cup on Saturday with a fine 65. Mark Stanham had a better exact score of 66 to take 2nd place from Mark Fuller. Best gross went to Ash Fletcher with a great 69 to get down to one handicap in the process. Interestingly out of a field of 124 there were only 8 no returns.

Also well done to Daz Fuller on his hole in one on the 8th hole in the match against Waltham on Thursday evening. Well done Daz!

Saturday 7 June 2014 - Men's 1st Invitation Day

Well, a stop start first Invitation Day saw heavy rain suspend play for about an hour and a half midday time. Testament to the drainage that, once the rain stopped, we were able to get play back on within 20 minutes!

Despite the difficult conditions scoring was good, especially late on as the sun came out, and indeed we were able to sit on the benches outside to do the cards. Well done and in first place Baz Johnson and guest Paul Shaw whose better back nine nudged Steve Irving and his guest John Hood, both on 62 into second place.

Happy 50th to Steve by the way!!

Third place was taken by Jamie Richardson and Andy Auckland, fourth by fast improving Nick Bradsell and Olly Lea, with 5th and 6th Glenn Wishart with Mark Flemming and then Darren Gough and Darren Kittle respectively. Best gross saw Mark Sutherland with Steve Kellett see off Steve Brattan and Rob McKay into second.

This Friday sees the most stressful day of the year for me in The Pro Am. So far so good with 44 teams and Pros, but as ever there will have been several last minute changes to contend with before the day. Please pop down to watch on the day as it is always a great atmosphere!!!!

One late put up on the board is the Father and Son's list, totally my fault for the delay. It is on the main board and the date to note if you want to play is Sunday 29th June, make up your own fours.

A bit of a drama unfolded last week when Josie was taken ill on the course. Firstly after a successful operation at Castle Hill I am delighted to report she is on the mend. Secondly well done to all who helped during a stressful period, especially as the ambulance needed a shove. Get well soon Josie!! X

I thought England did well, albeit in a losing cause against Italy. Let's hope the positive football carries forward for the next game on Thursday!!!

Also well done to Martin Kaymer for his stunning 8 shot winning margin to take the US crown!!!
