Hello Golfers,

Another busy week last week, which makes the clock seem to spiral faster than it should! The weather was unsettled, yet we seemed to miss a lot of the worst weather across the country, and by and large a pleasant weekend of weather, unusual for the bank holiday.

Club news

Hole In One Club

Murray Watt had a hole in one in the Seddon cup on the 17th hole.

And Mick Cushion had a hole in one on the 11th hole playing with yours truly.

Well done to both Murray and Mick.

Competition news

Men's Section

Saturday saw a less chaotic course than the previous week, with 105 playing the stableford. Winners were Loui Cockerill in division 1 with 39 points, Mark Fuller on 38 points in division 2 and Steve Aitken took the division 3 crown with 37 points. He has been having lessons recently and the work we have done is really starting to pay dividends.

The first team got a creditable draw at Kenwick on Saturday.

Senior Ladies Section

Monday was the 27th anniversary of senior ladies section and we played for the Birthday Cup. 14 ladies braved the weather which in fact turned out to be a great afternoon. The winner was Margaret Quantrill with Babs Swann coming second after a count back.

Later in the afternoon 32 ladies then attended an afternoon tea party at the club in celebration of the anniversary.

Ladies Section

Horrendous weather on Wednesday meant only a small number of ladies braved it, However our winner was also our newest member Louise Emberson who coped extremely well to return an excellent score of nett 75 with Gill Kapka second on nett 76, third was Jan Williams also with 76 but lost on count back.

Senior Men's Section

The early warm weather has deserted us as 56 senior members of Cleethorpes Golf Club took to the fairways with temperatures of 3 degrees and a biting wind to play their Monthly Stableford.

Division 1 winner was Derek Broughton who carded 16 stableford points and losing 1 shot of his senior handicap to take him to 9. Runner up in Division 1 was John Slesser who carded 15 points.

Division 2 was won by Senior Vice Captain Chris Whitfield who scored a birdie on the 13th to give him 5 stableford point on that hole and a total of 18 points for the 9 holes, also losing 1 shot of his Senior handicap taking him to 11 and promoting him up to Division 1.

The 14's group was won by Ivan Wilson with 14 stableford points.

Junior news

Jack Evans won The Junior Edwards trophy with a fantastic 71 nett 66 in very high winds. Also a mention for young JJ Ellis who won the 9 holer!!

The Junior Evening

The junior competition was followed by The Junior Evening. I gave a class to 7 potential new members beforehand, see the picture below. There were then 16 attending the night along with many parents, and a great night of games and then fixture list promotion went on. Outgoing Junior Captain welcomed new captain Jack Evans aboard.
