Well the very first thing this week is a big congratulations to Sergio on a fine win in The Masters, much deserved after many near major misses. Well done as well to Justin Rose, who I would have been rooting for any other time as he is such a great ambassador for the game. Fitting that the win came on the anniversary of his mentor and idols death, the late, great Seve.
Course wise at our place I have never seen it in better order for the early time of year. Last year we were cancelling competitions left right and centre. This year we have added three early start Stableford qualifiers. The latest last Saturday saw Shaun Smith edge out Craig Petherbridge with a better back nine 38 points in Division 1, whilst Division 2 saw Paul Ferrand beat Keith Holness into second place with a better back nine 36 points. Alas Andrew Burgess had the same 36 points, but missed out on back nine for a place. There were a creditable 59 players on the day.
Saturday also saw The RAF take on our first team, with our boys losing out to a strong RAF side 3-2. The RAF were then playing Lincolnshire on Saturday, but as yet I don't have the outcome.
Men's Section.
It wasn't April Fools at Cleethorpes but a good days golfing was had by our members with many remarking on the fantastic condition of the course. Thanks to Steve Beverley and his team who have worked tirelessly over the winter tidying, ditch clearing & tree cutting to have a course in tip top condition for the start of the golfing season. The competition was a Stableford and the results are in two divisions, Division 1 is for handicap's 12 and under, Division 2 being 13 and above. Division 1 was won by Martin Lacey 40 points, second Jason Ellis 38 points, third Leigh Davy 37 point and also on 37 points was Craig Petherbridge. The first 3 players all dropping their handicaps so well done to them. Division 2 was won by C. Davidson with 39 points, second Chris Wigg also with 39 points and third Kevin Louis with 37 points. These players also reduced their handicaps showing some excellent golf is being played at Cleethorpes.
Ladies Section
Once a year our ladies play a match with half the ladies playing for the Captain (Susan Colvin) and the others play for the Vice-Captain (Babs Swann)... there were 40 ladies playing which made 10 matches.
This is not a format the ladies play often and is enjoyed by everyone as it is always played in a fun spirit.
This year our Vice Captains team won 5 1/2 games to 4 1/2. All the ladies enjoyed tea and biscuits after the game while the scores were being totted up,

It’s time to consider something different The majority of golfers are switching to Lithium batteries to power their electric trolley because, with a 5-year limited warranty, it provides a reliable and more cost-effective option than a Lead-Acid alternative. Now is the ideal time to swap as we’re offering £25 OFF a Lithium battery when you trade-in your old one. | Click here to find out why it pays to go Lithium |
