Greetings from Paul Davies
Cleethorpes Golf Club - PGA Golf Professional

Well another week has simply flown by, and as I type away this fine Bank Holiday Monday it is great to see the sun out and it feeling warm.

The big news this week is we finally took delivery of the FlightScope which we are confident will bring a whole new dimension to club fitting, ball fitting and lesson delivery. We have had some initial training on it and now Rob and myself will be picking Alex’s more technically minded brain to get us up to speed on it’s use. With so many features available within it we are really excited by the potential use. Note it can be used indoors and we have already cleaned out the indoor studio area and will be upgrading with new carpets, painting up and then we intend to put in a television thereafter.

Tariff for FlightScope use will be £25 for club fitting, £10 for ball fitting and it will be £40 for a one hour lesson on it (note FlightScope will not be available for use on any of our normal lesson deals). Also as we develop its use we look forward to hosting challenge events on it, especially in the winter months indoors. Click here if you wish to book lessons or fittings on it.

Shop wise the PING gents clothing first delivery has now been taken and with a top up of FootJoy clothing the shop is as full as the proverbial egg. Please feel free to pop in to look round.

One date I have missed off the last week or so for the diary is The Captain’s Am-Am on Sunday 8th June. I will be printing out the entry list and posting on the board by the spike bar serving area this week. This is open to any combination of Ladies, Mixed or Men. Remember too guys the first Invitation Day is the day before and bookings are being taken in the shop. Payment of £15 is with entry. Note the Pro-Am is bubbling up nicely, again contact me should you wish to play! Please contact me here

We were delighted with the success of the Open Day recently and have seen many of the pupils attending the free lessons book onto several classes we are now running. If you still have interested parties wishing to try the game get them to contact us for cost, times and any other information they may need.

Football wise it looks Man City’s title after their victory over Everton, but could there yet be a twist back in Liverpool’s favour?? My boys lost to Arsenal but should now be safe as Norwich only got a point at Chelsea (in again Bradders!!!) and there would have to be a massive turn around in goal difference to change things Sunderland had a famous win at Old Trafford to boost their survival hopes to the delight of Barry Evans. Most disappointed result was Town losing out on a chance of another Wembley trip and now knowing at least another year in The Conference. Time for a change of manager??

Saturday saw a great entry of 57 pairs in The Sunday Morning Fourball Cup (yes I know the clash of days!!!) Well done to Ash Fletcher and Paul Barker whose 61 saw off John Stanley and a resurgent Glenn Wishart’s 63. If Ash and Paul could just play a bit more they might do even better!! Third place saw Mark Godfrey and Mark Pearson shoot 64 and 4th place saw old stager Chris Warren team up with son Martin for a 65.

Saturday 26 April 2014 - Seddon Cup

This competition was fiercely fought for first place with 3 players scoring 39 points - Roger Holt, Zak Mawer & Dave Cullum. The winner was Roger Holt.

Thursday 24 April 2014 - Mid-week Medal

This competition was won by Dave O’Hare with a great score of nett 63, 2nd was James Coleman also with nett 63, 3rd with nett 67 was young Jack Evans. Best Gross went to Ash Ryecroft with a fine 74.

Cleethorpes men's first team managed a fine win in the Elsham Foursome.

Wednesday 30 April 2014 - E.W.G.A. Competition

The first E.W.G.A. competition of the season was played this week and although it didn't attract a large entry there were some excellent scores. 1. Christina Reid, 88 - 16 = nett 72, 2. Alison Fletcher, 83 - 10 = nett 73 and she took it on a count back from 3. Jo Gibbons, 93 - 20 = nett 73

EWGA winner: Judith Gorman, Lady Captain and Chris Reid.

Course management made easy

If doing your yardages involves a cursory gaze towards the 150-yard marker - and then wondering on your backswing if that's to the front or the centre of the green - then it's high time you considered a distance measuring device.

Putting tips

We’d wager you can’t recall the last time you hit a 30ft putt five feet wide – but we’d also bet you left one 5ft long or short in your last round. Cutting out three-putts is all about distance control. We’ve some great drills to help you improve. Come and see us soon.
