Paul on writing duty this week after a few weeks of Rob in charge of this particular duty!
Weather again has dominated our thoughts this week, with the mid-week medal cancelled and then on Saturday the Seddon Cup having to be put back. we will let you know definite changes to schedule, but it is looking likely we will move the Sunday Morning 4 ball cup on July 30th back to a Sunday and play the Seddon Cup in that spot. Looking forward, it seems a much warmer and drier week this week. This will enable the greenstaff to catch up. That said they have done a remarkable job in keeping disruption to a minimum during this prolonged wet spell.
Big Events Coming...
Club wise we are gearing up for the big events. First on the list is Invitation day on the 4th June. The list is open in the shop, payment upon entry of £15. Please note the change of format to stableford for the first of the two Invitation days to encourage the higher handicappers to play.
Also open for entry is the Captain's Am-Am on 26th June. The list for this is on the main board in the spike bar. Format: three person teams of any combination of men, ladies and juniors.
Lastly to mention is the Pro-Am on the 24th June, where we currently need 4 teams for Pros. Pop into the shop for details.
This Week's Results
By the time you read this Rob and I will have had a day away at Seacroft where we are playing for the Lincs senior Pro team against the Lincs amateurs, and I will let you know next week how we fared.
Last Wednesday saw Mr Captain and myself win a shortened match (due to yet more rain and Hail!) against Simon Short and Dave Copley. There are still spaces for these Wednesday night matches. The list is to the side of the Gents locker room door.
Protecting The Perch
I Also played 9 holes with Micko last week and managed to keep him off the perch! But please don't mention this to him as he gets sensitive about these things!
Ladies Results
Wednesday, 13 April 2016 - A fantastic win from Judith Gorman (41 points), 2nd with 38 points was Alison Fletcher, with Carla Clyburn 3rd with 36 points.
Wednesday, 27 April 2016 - Congratulations to Daniella Clyburn on her victory in The Bunnies Cup played in very challenging conditions. Her winning score of nett 70 was quite remarkable given the conditions. In second place was Elaine Blastland with 78, with Trudy Owen 3rd, also on 78.
We Have A New Junior Captain
The new Junior Captain Cameron Tuck was inaugurated at the Junior Open Evening, pictured with Judy Garton, secretary of Junior Section and past Captain Zac Mawer.
Owen Parinder Bests The Rest
Congratulations to Owen Parinder (35 points),the winner of the Cleethorpes Golf Club Spring Stableford Cup ( kindly donated by Alison Fletcher). In second place was Jack Evans with 34 points. The winner of the 9 hole competition was Dylan Welford with a net score of 39. Owen is pictured with Dave Reid (Captain) and Christina Reid (Lady Captain).
Football wise, Wally and Steve Courtney's West Ham took my boys apart at the weekend, whilst results at the bottom will possibly see Norwich relegated. That would leave a tussle between the top two North East clubs for that last relegation spot. At the top a hard earned point for Leicester at Man United mean Spurs must win tonight ( typing Monday ) at Chelsea. Man City had a poor loss whilst resting key players before the Champions league semi second leg.
- Thursday, 5 May - Mid-Week Medal Seniors match home v Grimsby
- Saturday, 7 May - Moody Cup
- Sunday, 8 May - Ladies under 65 trophy Junior match away v Pottergate
- Wednesday, 11 May - Ladies EWGA and Hyundai
- Thursday, 12 May - B team away v Elsham Seniors match away v Market Rasen
The Shop is Shining
Shop wise we look nicely stocked with plenty of choice. Like you for your golf, we are desperate for the better weather for our business!
That said a successful demo day by PING despite the Hail, and the generally good sales of the M2 by TaylorMade have kept us ticking.
With the shoe wall full and the revamped clothing areas looking spot on, we are sure we have plenty to tempt you as we see the sun more.
Don't Miss Your Chance...
Fitting remains at the heart of our club selling ethos, with PING, TaylorMade and Titleist signing up to the Complete Equipment Solution. CES includes a Free fitting and Free follow on lesson, when you spend £299 or more in a single purchase. There has never been a better time than now to get booked in with Micko to take advantage of his superb fitting knowledge. Click here to request a fitting, or click on the videos below to learn more about the Complete Equipment Solution.
Mind The Gap...
One aspect of Micko's work underused by the membership is his gapping sessions at £20 per half hour session. Many of you, alas, have no idea how far you hit each club, often thinking you hit it further than is the case. Let's get realistic. Again, click here to book one of these gapping sessions and once you know how far you hit each club the green will become a proverbial desert, making it hard to miss.
Our Thoughts Go Out To The Williams Family
One sad piece of news was the sudden loss for Alan Williams and his family, of his wife. My thoughts go out to them all at this difficult time. I look forward to seeing him back in the fold of the club when he is ready and getting back to the banter we have always enjoyed between our rival clubs, West Brom and Wolves.
