Hi everyone, hope we find you well today, at least we've seen a few more of you this week, we finally got the winter league under way, the rain being replaced by the wind. At least that helps to dry out the course, so fingers crossed we'll get a good run from here on in.
Unfortunately the Pro's evening had to be cancelled last Friday which was a shame as I was looking forward to some lively debate on our great game. Hopefully it can be resurrected at a later date maybe with an evening 9 hole event in the spring, we will keep you informed. F.A. Cup weekend as far as I'm aware there were few surprises, most of the top teams going through with the odd exception. Unfortunate the Mariners took a fall at Gateshead, a real shame after their very good run of form, let's hope normal service is resumed next time out.
I assume due to so many winter league weeks having been lost, that we will be putting on another this coming Saturday, give us a ring in the shop after Tuesday when I will have clarified with Mr Davies.
In quite challenging conditions Cleethorpes Ladies enjoyed an Ambrose medal this week. Runners-up with a net 59.1 were Barbara Bayliss, Becky Thorpe, Josie Revel and Linda Ramsey. The winners, with a net score of 55.1 were Judy Garton, Babs Swann, Anne Lambert and Susan Colvin ( Pictured below left to right with Lady Captain Christina Read centre)
In the shop there are still plenty of bargains to be had in the sale, winter lesson offer still available, as is loft and lie check. It won't be long now before the summer stock will be in store, ping have brought out a new iron, we have demo irons in store right now for you to try. We have an exciting range from Under Armour as worn by Jordan Spieth, as well as the new PING and FootJoy range, due in March, so plenty of exciting products for you to get your hands on for the new season.
On the tip front, one of the things I would have brought up at the Pro's night was the contrast between what a top player thinks about as opposed to almost all amateurs. 28 tour pros were asked what thoughts they had on the course and not one had a technical idea in their head at all. All were far more focused on tempo, and target.
Contrast that with what most amateurs think and it's far more likely to be along the lines of turn my shoulders, transfer bodyweight, keep the left arm straight, and head down. If you consider that a swing last for about 2 seconds I for one defy anyone to tell me they are able to concentrate on so many individual body movements in that time scale. In all other games players focus on what they are aiming at not the physical movements they need to propel an object to their target.
The ability we all use in other motor skills is I believe, by far the best way of playing golf as well, it seems very strange that most people have a complete trust in this way of doing things until it comes to a golf swing, then they for some reason completely abandon what has worked consistently well with all other motor skills.
So the motto is to simplify, stop over thinking and you will I believe progress faster than you thought possible, if this strikes a chord with you why not book a lesson and let's get you on the road to more enjoyable golf.
